(Humming)Bird photography

Not gonna lie, I’m pretty shocked that I’ve taken an interest in bird photography. First of all, bird photography is hard. So much of it is out of your control. Birds move and change directions seemingly at random from a beginner’s perspective. And you need lots of light, because you might need to crank up that shutter speed to avoid a blurry shot. All that said, here I am, enjoying my feeble attempts at bird photography.

To be a bit more specific, I’m enjoying hummingbird photography. I can’t quite put my finger on it, there’s just something that I find enjoyable about: (1) finding them in the first place; and (2) managing to take a usable photograph of one. I’m lucky that I live in an area that consistently has a hummingbird population or is part of a common migration pattern for them. I see these little guys nearly every day. My wife actually set up a hummingbird feeder in our backyard. I’m starting to think that she pulled an Inception on me and planted this interest months ago.

I think these are Costa’s Hummingbirds for the most part. I see them pretty often, but they’re tough to find. I look like a crazy person, walking around my local park staring into bushes, up trees, and swinging my head around wildly once I hear one. Anyway, just a quick post to get some momentum going. I have a few more posts stacking up that I need to finish editing and publish. Cheers.
